Navigating Menopause:
From Brain Fog To Passing UK Bar Exams
(after rolling off hormone therapy)
I get where you might be right now…
In the craziness of life, before peri menopause and menopause really made their presence felt, I (mostly) would be on top of things, usually find a way through most problems, and at the same time, often put myself last while burning the candle at both ends.
Then, out of nowhere, peri-menopause blindsided me, turning my world upside down.
Stressed and distracted, I struggled to connect the dots of seemingly random symptoms as signals I was entering a biological transition. Instead I was overcome with feeling lost and losing my grip, almost to the verge of giving up because I just couldnt work out how to ‘fix myself’.
But something inside wouldn’t let me just give up despite feeling desparate.
Exhausted I just carried on in the darkness. Confused. Lost
I looked for answers in a world full of confusing advice from medical experts, obgyns (five of them), finding temporary relief from alternative healers in acupuncture, kinesiology and hypnotherapy.
Some supplements did help but my knowledge of what was truly going on was so lacking in those early days.
Yes, despite my best efforts, I couldn't find the more permanent relief I desperately wanted and intuitvely knew was out there.
I just knew that what the doctors were telling me couldn’t be all there was - that mother nature was retiring my body and that was that!
Turned out to be a slightly one sided story. I couldn’t believe that at around 50 mother nature just threw me onto what I perceived to be a rubbish pile. Discarded me because I could no longer produce essential hormones to keep me functioning especially in my world of work (high stress at that!).
Eventually, out of sheer exhaustion, I turned to hormone replacement therapy (HRT), because I was advised this was the only way to get my sanity back and despite knowing the risks involved (I come from a high health risk family background), I did it. I succumbed to HRT full of doubts and fears and lack of knowledge.
I understand what desperation for relief feels like.
So I went on HRT, but became more and more determined to look for an alternative approach. Driven by my family health history concerns I started to educate myself, to research and to read. Read alot of research into peri menopause, menopause and a bunch of related topics including body systems, mindfulness, movement, sleep, stress, lifestyle and toxic load.
Adding to this, years of trial and error, going on and then rolling off hormone replacment therapy, diets, fasting and exercise and meditition as well as deeper research into, for example, the power of vitamin D (which is also a hormone!).
I also embarked on extra education (formal qualifications in functional wellness, lab testing, as well as refreshing my Masters training in psychology and Grad Dip training and corporate experience in counselling), I've developed a passion for empowering women who are journeying thorugh peri menopause and menopause through a holistic approach.
I'm particularly drawn to the concept of "brain rewiring," so I decided to prove this research first hand, that is, that there's life beyond brain fog and forgetfulness, by studying and passing UK Bar exams without hormone replacement.
I also have a deep interest in the role of stress, sleep and movement in keeping vitality during our transition through to menopause.
Particularly too, the role of nutrition and its’ impacts on hormone signalling. Hormones are our communicators and there are more of them than you might think. Its important to understand the key hormone players as we journey toward and through peri menopause and menopause.
Through this journey, I'm here to tell you that menopause isn't the end; it's simply a transition.
You don't have to endure it alone.

PS: I don’t regret going onto hormone therapy, yet I had a nagging doubt that never left me, that eventually led me to search out alternatives.
This whole experience really brought home to me the amount of misinformation and fear there is surrounding hormonal options.
Based on my own experiences, I understand the importance on focused listening and on developing thoughtful solutions that fit individual and unique needs.
This takes time and should not be rushed.
So, above all, I listen first. Then we move onto robust processes, lab testing and thorough ‘root cause’ analysis, where I partner with you all the way.
