My Journey Into Menopause (so far!)
From Fog to Passing UK Bar Exams
I've experienced battling brain fog, feeling disconnected, 'uncontrollable' weight gain and 24/7 hot flashes all while holding onto important roles in the commercial world.
I remember feeling desparate and panicked during this ‘foggy’ time in my life. I contemplated leaving my career and my wonderful partner. I eventually took a less stressful job thinking this was the answer. But the problems remained.
Looking in vain for one magic solution - in supplements, alternative healing, yoga, meditation and eventually succumbed to hormone replacement therapy (and out again).
While stumbling alone over all these hurdles, I became determined to find out what was really going on with my body (and brain!).
I became convinced, unlike some doctors suggested, mother nature was not writing me off at 50 years of age simply because I was becoming of less ‘reproductive’ value.
So I started to educate myself to pull the pieces of the peri and menopause puzzle together because no ‘expert’ convinced me peri and menopause is mother nature’s way of throwing me on the rubbish heap.
In order to understand and heal myself, I read and researched copiously - evidence based scientific research papers on peri and menopause, attended expert classes, participated in long programs and paid for 1:1’s with medical experts - including with enlightened gynaecologists and doctors as well as functional nutritionists.
I eventually found my way back to health through a journey of self discovery, investing $’000’s in courses. programs and 1:1 (expensive!) consultations.
Through trial and error, education and studying evidence based research I came to understand peri and menopause do not signal the end but rather a beginning to true self understanding and confidence.
I went on to add to my already 4 degrees by qualifying as a functional nutritionist and re-freshing early learnings from my Masters level psychology and counselling degrees.
I was driven to (re) discover the evidence based keys to secure my own complete well being - beyond one fad, tablet or laboratory made hormone replacement therapy.
And I succeeded!
I was so successful in discovering health again, I rolled off hormone replacement therapies (all of them!) and went on to pass UK Bar exams just to prove I could!
I can tell you from personal experience, research and training, Peri and Menopause is not an affliction, nor is it a label that defines you.
It is all a natural phase of life, and within it lies the opportunity to surprise yourself with success, calm and control.
